Announcing Hosted Dolt on Azure

Dolt is a SQL database with Git-style version control features. In 2022, we launched Hosted Dolt which allows you to stand up a fully managed Dolt deployment with a few clicks. Our initial launch was exclusive to AWS, and we added support for GCP in 2023. Today we are excited to announce that Hosted Dolt now supports Azure. If you’ve been waiting for Azure support like the handful of customers we built this for, now is the time to try Hosted Dolt.

Creating a Hosted Dolt Instance on Azure#

Creating a Hosted Dolt deployment on Azure works the same as creating a deployment on AWS or GCP. Once you have an account set up and logged in, you can click the “Create Deployment” button. First you’ll need to select a “Standard” deployment (“Trial” deployments are only available on AWS), name your deployment, and choose Dolt as your cluster type (You could also choose to create a Doltgres, or a MySQL cluster with a Dolt replica). Then click “Next”.

Create Deployment

Then select “Azure” as your “Cloud Provider”.

Select Azure

Now you can specify the remaining options related to where your instance is located, the size of the instance, the type of storage you want, and the size of that storage.

Instance Options

Once you have all of that filled out, click “Next” and select which features you want enabled such as replication, and workbench support. And then hit “Next” one last time to review your deployment choices.

Feature Options

Finally, click “Create Deployment” and your instance will be up and running in just a few minutes.

What’s Next#

Now that we have basic support for Azure, we will be working on adding support for private deployments within Azure. Private networks are a feature we currently support on AWS and GCP which allows you to create Hosted Dolt deployments which are only accessible to your private Azure infrastructure.

Conclusion#

Hosted Dolt now supports Azure. You can create a new Hosted Dolt deployment on Azure in just a few clicks. If you have any questions about using Hosted Dolt on Azure, or any other cloud provider, or if you have feedback or feature requests, please join our Discord and let us know.
